Medical Biller / Coder / Office Assistant - Diploma (Citrus Heights CA)

This program prepares graduates to work as an entry-level Medical Biller or Coder. When a health care professional treats a patient, a record is made describing observations and medical treatment. The Medical Biller/Coder assigns a code to each diagnosis and procedure. Various software programs are used to prepare and process medical claims for the patients, the physicians and the insurance carriers.

Students enrolled in this program will learn medical and complementary medicine terminology, accounting terminology and CPT and ICD-9 coding. They will demonstrate an understanding of current medical software and trends in the insurance industry. They will code and prepare insurance claims and analyze benefits. In addition, they will learn front office skills such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, referrals and filing.

Upon completion of the program, the student will be prepared to enter the health care career field through entry-level positions such as a Medical Billing Clerk, Medical Insurance Clerk, Medical Coder, Medical Records Clerk or an Administrative Assistant in a medical office or insurance company. Furthermore, graduates possessing a high school diploma or GED are eligible to take the Certified Medical Insurance
and Coding Specialist examination offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
